At SCD Leisure, we believe that fitness, wellbeing, and community belong to everyone. We’re proud to be an inclusive facility, committed to creating a welcoming and accessible environment for all our visitors — regardless of ability.
To deepen this commitment, we’ve proudly teamed up with Active Disability Ireland and the Disability Officer at South Dublin County Council to offer specialist disability inclusion training for our fitness instructors. On May 28th, fifteen team members from SCD Leisure will take part in this bespoke training, equipping them with practical tools and understanding to better support individuals with disabilities in our leisure centres.
This is an important step toward ensuring that everyone — regardless of their ability or needs — feels seen, respected, and empowered to enjoy the many benefits of physical activity.
We want every visitor to SCD Leisure Clondalkin to feel confident in accessing our facilities. Some of the accessibility features available include:
- Accessible parking spaces located close to the entrance
- Wheelchair-accessible entrance and reception area
- Spacious accessible changing rooms and toilets
- Inclusive programming and adaptable equipment where possible
- Staff trained to assist and support a wide range of needs
These are more than just features — they are part of our ongoing effort to remove barriers and create a more inclusive leisure experience.
Inclusion isn’t just about infrastructure — it’s about awareness and respect in our daily actions. Here are a few simple but powerful ways we can all contribute to a more accessible and positive environment for everyone:
- Never park in accessible parking spaces unless you have a valid permit
- Keep doorways and access routes clear for wheelchair users and those with mobility aids
- Leave accessible changing rooms and showers clean and available for those who need them most
- Be considerate in communication — a smile, patience, and respectful interaction go a long way
- Always be mindful that not all disabilities are visible
We kindly ask our members and guests to remain aware and considerate of these small courtesies. They truly make a difference in someone’s day — and their ability to fully enjoy what our centre has to offer.
