Resistance Training

What is it?

Resistance training is training with weights, either free weights, machine weights or your own body weight. By movements through joints with weight added you get the opportunity to overload specific muscle groups to achieve overload, which is essential to achieve the training goal whether it is increasing muscular strength, size, endurance, tone or definition.

Resistance myths

Lifting weights will give me big muscles

This is not true. Different training methods will achieve different effects and building muscle is one of the more difficult ones to achieve. Our highly trained fitness staff will ensure that you achieve the benefits you would like to achieve.

When I stop training my muscle will turn to fat?

Muscle and fat are two completely different tissues- one cannot turn into the other. When exercising you are not turning fat to muscle, you are burning fat and toning muscle. When you stop training you will lose muscle and if you are consuming the same amount of calories you may gain weight as a result, however muscle will not turn to fat.

We use only life fitness equipment which is highly technological, user friendly and state of the art. Our machine weights include leg press, leg curl, leg extension, chest press, shoulder press, lat pull down seated row, an extremely versatile dual adjustable pulley (D.A.P or cable machine) and a glute press and torso rotation which are new on the market. We also have a selection of free weights, a smith machine and a range of medicine, stability and bosu balls.
